By: Aileen Velishya

Did you know that over 600 children died as occupants in motor vehicle crashes, and nearly over 100,000 were injured? According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 35% of the victims who died were not buckled up. These sad facts can be prevented if only parents prepared better by buckling their children in age and size-appropriate car seats or seat belts.

Types of Rear Car Seats

There are three types of rear car seats:

  • Rear-facing only seats: a small and portable seats that can be carried. It is used for infants up to 22 to 35 pounds. Suitable for travel.
  • Convertible seats: a seat that can be used as rear-facing and forward-facing (suitable for older children or when they outgrow the weight/length limit). It is not portable and can’t be carried. It is used for children up to 40-50 pounds. Suitable for travel.
  •  Three in one seat: a seat that can be used as rear-facing, forward-facing, and belt-positioning booster. It is not portable and can’t be carried. It is used for children up to 40-50 pounds.

To choose which type is the right one for you, you should carefully measure the space in your car and do some research about which is the best option for your little one.

Or you can always consult with your pediatrician if your child has special needs.

Why Car Seats are Important

As a parent, all you want is that your little one is safe and sound. It’s like the safety of your child comes first over anything. That also comes in mind when you travel along with your child using a car, where child restraints are vital to ensure their safety from a road incident.

Studies have shown that keeping your child in a rear-facing seat is safer. Rear-facing restraints are highly effective in preventing injuries if used correctly because they fully support the child’s head and neck in the event of a crash, the report says.

Car seat use reduces the risk of injury in a crash by 71-82% for children, when compared with seat belt use alone. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all infants ride rear-facing starting with their first ride home from the hospital.

All infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing seat as long as possible until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car safety seat manufacturer.

I believe we can all agree on how important a car seat is. But there is one thing that’s also important, a rear car seat mirror.

What Is A Rear Car Seat Mirror

A rear car seat mirror or called baby car mirror is a smart accessory that allows you and your child to see each other during the whole journey.

A rear car seat mirror will offer you the ability to look at your child without needing to turn your head or take your attention away from the road.

Why You Need Rear Car Seat Mirror

One of the misconceptions from parents is that they are afraid when their children are in a rear car seat, the child couldn’t see the parent, and therefore they would feel uncomfortable.

Maybe you think because your child couldn’t see the front they would get bored, but it’s not true. They can see through both sides and rear windows at the same time.

With a rear car seat mirror, your child will be able to see you, and you can take a look for them while driving. A rear car seat mirror can keep your baby entertained, and at the same time, help you to keep an eye on your loved ones.

How To Install A Car Seat Mirror

However, keep in mind that you have to install it properly. Because a mirror is made from reflective materials, it must be taken to avoid direct alignment with intense sunlight to prevent fire.

Every installation of a car seat mirror might be different depending on the type of mirror you bought. However, there are two main types of mirror, one that sits over the rear headrest and one that sits over the factory-installed interior rearview mirror.

I have found a mirror with a strap on and a mirror with no straps on (it comes with a suction cup attachment), which could be a good solution for cars with no headrest.

If you have a car seat that sits over the headrest, to install it, you just need to attach the two straps from the mirror to your rear headrest. Place it directly above your child. Make sure the straps tighten to ensure no slippage or sideways movement when the car is moving. Then adjust the mirror so your child’s reflection can be seen in your interior rearview mirror and your reflection can be seen by your child in the rear seat mirror. Then, you are good to go!

Most car seat mirrors can only be attached to the moveable rear headrest and cannot be installed into fixed headrest.

Remember that car seat mirrors are safe for your baby as long as they are properly fitted and correctly attached. To clean it you can use a soft cloth for your mirror.

How To Find The Right Car Seat Mirror

The first years of your little one’s travel life will be in a rear car seat, so make sure you choose the best mirror you can find. A great car seat mirror should allow you to see your child and the area inside the car clearly. Only wide-angle views mirror offers that.

A right car seat mirror should offer safety; therefore, they should be shatterproof and not made entirely from a glass that could injure you or your child. Find a mirror that is adjustable, so you won’t need to change the mirror when your baby grows, or you change cars.

For me personally, there are a few things a great car seat mirror could offer:

  • Strap attachment system. A sturdy attachment strap allows you to relax as the mirror will not slip no matter how bumpy the road is. It can give you peace of mind and also reduce the risk of harm to your little one.
  • Shatterproof mirror. If somehow you got involved in an accident, you need to know that the worst doesn’t happen. You need to be sure that the mirror you place for safety in the first place won’t harm your child because it shattered.f the wors
  • Crystal clear view. A great mirror will not result in a distorted image, especially from your child’s perspective, because it could cause more problems.
  • Easy to install with no assembly required. Simple installation should be your ideal standard when looking for a car seat mirror. You need to find a mirror that you can easily strap to the headrest and adjust necessary.
  • Fully adjustable. Find a mirror that can match your needs. This way, you won’t need to change the mirror every time you change the car. Or buy a new mirror just because your baby grows.
  • 360-degree pivot point. A 360 degree offers the ability to see your child effortlessly without taking your eyes off the road. You can use it at ease.
  • Lightweight. You don’t want a heavy mirror that can slip and possibly hit your baby.
  • Convex lens. This shape of a mirror offers the greatest possible view area.

By having a car seat mirror, you won’t need to look back to check on your child. You will be able to make visual contact and focus your concentration on the road while you drive. This way, you will not put yourself, your child, and other road users at risk.

In the end, we wanted the best for our loved ones. Preparing for their safety is one of the things we can do. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry. Having a rear car seat is the best option to travel with your child. By having a rear car seat mirror, you can always look back with a relaxed feeling thinking you have done your best for them. 2. Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all. But think about if you added some great photos or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this website could undeniably be one of the best in its field. Superb blog!

  3. Thanks for the ideas you reveal through this site. In addition, several young women who become pregnant usually do not even try and get health insurance coverage because they worry they might not qualify. Although many states right now require that insurers give coverage despite the pre-existing conditions. Rates on these guaranteed options are usually higher, but when thinking about the high cost of medical care bills it may be your safer way to go to protect a person’s financial potential.

  4. Great post. I used to be checking continuously this weblog and I am inspired! Extremely helpful info specifically the final part 🙂 I take care of such info a lot. I was seeking this certain info for a long time. Thanks and best of luck.

  5. I have mastered some new issues from your web site about desktops. Another thing I’ve always considered is that computer systems have become something that each house must have for many people reasons. They provide convenient ways in which to organize homes, pay bills, search for information, study, listen to music and in many cases watch shows. An innovative method to complete all of these tasks is to use a laptop computer. These pc’s are portable ones, small, powerful and easily transportable.
